Julia Stone — the sisterly half of the brother/sister folk duo Angus and Julia Stone — released her solo album, By the Horns, in the U.S. yesterday. The album includes a cover of The National’s 2010 track “Bloodbuzz Ohio.” The cover is pretty fantastic. It doesn’t completely depart from its original, but it still has its own sound. Check it out!
California-based band Best Coast performed the title track off their new album, The Only Place, last week on David Letterman. This album might be my album for the summer. So great!
The music video for the Regina Spektor & Only Son song “Call Them Brothers” was released today! Check it out!
Everyone knows how much I love covers of songs — but you also know I can’t stand covers that just sound like a regurgitation of its original. Out of the thousand covers I’ve heard of the overplayed Fun. song “We Are Young,” this one stands out as its own version.
Rapper PJ Simas’ original hip-hop verses and the exquisite voice of Drew Tabor make this cover pretty wonderful. Check it out!
So all of these “#whatshouldwecallme” themed tumblrs mean
that I need to find a new theme for my blog…….after finals.
This song just came on shuffle and immediately reminded me why I used to be obsessed with it 6 years ago. Red Right Ankle by The Decemberist.
”This is the story of the boys who loved you. Who loved you now and loved you then. Some were sweet, and some were cold and snuffed you. And some just laid around in bed. And some, they crumbled you straight to your knees — did it cruel, did it tenderly. Some, they crawled their way into your heart to rend your ventricles apart. This is the story of the boys who loved you.”
Don’t Leave Me (Ne Me Quitte Pas) - Regina Spektor
Regina re-recorded her song “Ne Me Quitte Pas” from her 2002 album Songs for her new album What We Saw From the Cheap Seats. I absolutely adore this new recording! Perfect summer song.
The song is the newest single and is available on itunes!
My girl Lana del Rey filmed a new music video for her single, “Blue Jeans.” I absolutely love that she uses Bradley Soileau from her “Born to Die” video in this one as well.
“But you fit me better than my favorite sweater.”
Stevie Nicks’ cover of the Dave Matthews Band classic, “Crash Into Me.”
Probably one of my most favorite covers ever. Her voice is timeless and stunning.
“Sweet like candy to my soul. Sweet you rock and sweet you roll.”
